The Lucca Center of Contemporary Art is a new addition to the city's architectural and cultural significance. The exhibits are incredible that feature various kinds of art and artwork done in a modern way. It is a nice change to see this contemporary art that contrasts with the medieval and the Renaissance art that is present in the town. The art is exhibited on the five floors inside a 16th century Palazzo Boccella (the Palace Boccella). It is in the proximity of the famous Amphitheatre Square. It is well distributed according to the kind of artwork. There is also an elevator and staircase that one can find here. The entrance is large that opens up to the room that is especially for visitors and also has a reception desk so that visitors can get information about the center. The building is located on the way to the medieval walls of the Lucca city. The insides have pillars with frescoes, allegorical figures and costumed characters.
The Contemporary Art
It houses only the contemporary art within the 8 rooms that are designed as neutral exhibition spaces that help to display art that are created in different forms like sculptures, paintings, video work, photography, and installations. This is also the place where the center organizes certain activities relating to meetings, workshops for children, activities and more. The place is comprised of paintings of allegorical figures and characters from the 17th century, which contrast the rooms for which it has been used to display the work. Attention is given to the details of the interiors where the lighting is concerned so that each object is displayed in the right manner.
You will also find a good bookshop, named as Lu.CCA where you can go through various authors and their marvelous work related to art, design, and photography which one can buy easily. At the bookshop, they offer books, catalogs and products of modern art.
Also inside is a great restaurant "The Funnel", where visitors can refresh themselves and go through the artwork in detail taking their own time.
The historical setting of the city and the modern structure of the contemporary art together make it an interesting combination to check when you are in Lucca.
