One of the most luxurious places in Lucca has been turned into Museum and National Gallery of Palazzo Mansi that was built at the end of 500. The villa is magnificent that has plenty of rooms with different kinds of artifacts, paintings, sculptures, and other items of interest. Many of the rooms still have the furniture of those times. One of them is the Bridal chamber that is done in Baroque style. Most of the original furniture was lost and sold at fairs in different centuries. The first floor has decorated and frescoes and tapestries that are precious and as they were. The Mansi family owned the building in 1616. In 1965, it became a state property and was turned into a museum around 1965 to 1977. Renovation works have also been carried out and made to look like the original structure. The original furniture has been replaced by other pieces of furniture from other mansions in the town from private collections. Temporary exhibitions are carried out on the ground floor.

What do you get to see?
The interiors comprise of the art gallery that have a great collection of paintings by Batoni, Ridolfi, Tofanelli, and Marcucci, etc. Apart from this you can see a good collection of vestments, textiles, furnishings from the ancient days. The picture gallery in the palace was set up in 1977 and was donated by the Duke of Leopold II of Habsburg-Lorraine in late 19th century. It comprises of paintings of great artists and collection from the 14th to 18th century. You can get a closer look at the portrait of Alessandro de Medici by Jacopo da Pontormo, Portrait of Don Garcia de’ Medici child Bronzine, the continence of Scipio by Domenico Beccafumi, and Portrait of a Venetian Senator by Tintoretto. The paintings in the galleries are categorized into various rooms that are divided by age and style like Tintoretto, Ghirlandaio, Veronese. The works of Pompeo Batoni, Stefano Tofanelli, and Bernardino Nocchi are highly appreciated. Besides, there are textiles and instruments that were used in the ancient times. You will also have a glimpse of models of vintage clothing, frames, religious vestments, the tissues used and made during the 16th to 18th centuries. The valuable treasures are well preserved, and a must visit when you come to Lucca. The lavishness of the house is truly overwhelming, and the house itself is worth seeing.

About the Palazzo
The structure comprises of ground plus 2 floors. On the ground floor, you will find the grand museum with paintings and artifacts collected from various places as well as some that were owned by the family. The first floor comprises of the formal apartment that was built in the 16th century with an inner staircase in neoclassical style. But in 18th century Stefano Tofanelli modified the apartment and changed the hall with rooms, designed the doors and the furniture along with the ceilings and walls with stucco decorations. The music room is further down the hall, which was conceived by Chiarini and Giovanni Maria Ciocchi. The second floor also comes to renovations and is mainly an art gallery where you can see works of great artists and also portraits of well-known figures in Lucca.
