Today the church is also used for exhibition space and other activities as well. It’s a beautiful little church that was quite popular in those days. It was a great place where politics was being discussed and was the venue of consuls of Causse Lucchesi. The unique style of decoration and the perfect creation of the structure is one of the best examples of those times. One simply cannot stop admiring the facade and the interiors of the structure. In 1939-40 drastic changes were seen as the elimination of plasterwork, the 15th-century vaults and the baroque altars. This was to turn the place into a memory of those soldiers whose names have been inscribed here in the nave. The soldiers have died in the war and their names can be seen inside the church. Today the church is closed to any kind of religious worship. What you see these days are the events and activities that are particularly cultural and also exhibitions of different kinds.
Architectural regards
The structure is a fine example of artistic influence from Pisa and Lucca. The presence of the epigraph inside the church ensures the influences seen in Pisa. The characteristics of the structures are related to the Maetro Diotisalvi, who is the author of Baptistery of Pisa. The facade is to be found in complete white with a flower on the upper level of the church. The blocks of the limestone are marvelous, and the shape of the structure is also stunning. The arches on the lower level of the church are simple with pillars that do not come with intricate designs but signify the elegance of those times. The facade cannot be ignored as it is an elegant part of the structure. Now that the structure is no longer a place of worship; you can see various kinds of activities going on into the church. However, the looks and the interiors of the church have been maintained since its last renovation.
Do not miss this fine piece of architecture from the artistic movement of Pisa when you are in Lucca.
